The Argentine Government deeply regrets the death of former French President Jacques Chirac, an emblematic figure in French and world politics.

A fundamental actor in history during the second half of the 20th century, Chirac was twice president of France, twice prime minister, and served as mayor of Paris.

During his terms in office, he strengthened traditional political, economic and friendship relations between Argentina and France, and was, particularly, a promoter of dialogue among Europe, MERCOSUR and Latin America.

Argentina joins the people of France at this time of grief and conveys its condolences to the Chirac family.
